Two electric vehicles, the Kia EV6 and Ford F-150 Lightning, were named North American SUV of the Year and Truck of the Year on Wednesday, while the Acura Integra was named 2023 Car of the Year.
After three rounds of voting by a jury of 50 independent American and Canadian auto industry journalists, the winners were announced Wednesday at a ceremony in Detroit, USA. The jury initially evaluated 47 cars, which were narrowed down to to nine in the first two rounds of voting, three cars in each category.
The Acura Integra received a total of 174 votes, beating out the Genesis G80 EV and Nissan Z in the final voting for the 2023 North American Car of the Year award. The Ford F-150 Lightning, on the other hand, beat out the Chevrolet Silverado ZR2 and the Lordstown Endurance in the Truck of the Year 2023 category with 483 votes.
In the end, the 2023 Kia EV6 won the SUV category with 258 votes over the Cadillac Lyriq and Genesis GV60. “It’s been a very competitive year,” with an “unprecedented variety of vehicles for sale in North America today,” Gary Witzenburg, president of NACTOY, which presents the awards, said in a statement.
